Harry Christian Metzger Jr was born on October 3, 1923 to Harry C Metzger Sr and Lillian Metzger(Cassel) of Norristown Pa. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of January 29, 2019, he was 95 years old.

He was the brother of the late Paul Metzger(Mildred) of Reading Pa, husband to the late Vivian Metzger (Manning) of Norristown Pa. and father to the late Carol Waltimyer (Metzger) of Zieglerville Pa.

Harry is survived by his sister Marjorie (Metzger)Trego(Howard) of Glenmore Pa, his wife Frances Jean Metzger (Frank) of Harleysville Pa his two sons Dennis Metzger of West Chester Pa and Keith Metzger(Sandy) of Trappe Pa, 7 grandchildren; Jonathan Metzger of Schwenksville Pa, Alexis (Metzger) Delude(Tony) of Harleysville Pa, Deirdra (Metzger)Zielinski(Greg) of Whitehall Pa, Jared Metzger(Tori) of Alexandria Va, Ian Metzger of Greensboro NC, Melissa Waltimyer of Philadelphia Pa, and Laurel Ziegler of Harleysville Pa, and 4 great grand children; Taylor Delude and Vivian Delude of Harleysville Pa and Clara Zielinski and Travis Zielinski of Whitehall Pa.

Harry attended Norristown High School where he was an active member of the marching and jazz bands. After high school Harry worked as an apprentice machinist at Wildman manufacturing company before enlisting in the United States Army in 1943.

In the Army Harry was in Battery “A” of the 303rd Artillery Battalion 97th Division. From 1943-1946 he was deployed numerous times to the European Theater of Operations and the Asian Pacific Theater. He was awarded various service medals for those engagements including a bronze star and victory medal. Harry was discharged from the Army with honors in 1946 and returned home to Norristown to begin his civilian life.

For most of his career Harry worked as a finish carpenter for his brother-in-laws business A.E. and W.R. Manning of Schwenksville Pa builders of custom homes and restaurants.
Harry retired in 1990 with his wife Jean and moved from Worcester, Pa to Lady Lake, Florida and moved back to Pennsylvania again in 2014 after almost 25 years of restful retirement.

Harry was an active member of the Lower Providence Presbyterian Church of Eagleville Pa, and the New Life Presbyterian Church in Lady Lake Florida where he and Jean sang in the choir of both churches for almost 50 years. He was also a Past President of the Eagleville Trooper Lions Club and a member of the Lion’s Club String Band.

Harry enjoyed creating things for the family out of wood and is leaving behind many family heirlooms that will provide continued memories of Harry’s life works for the family.
Over the years Harry enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, camping, and golf but his favorite game was horseshoes. In his 90’s Harry competed and won gold medals at the Senior Games in Ocala Florida and Montgomery County Pennsylvania.

A service to celebrate Harry’s life will be conducted this Saturday February 9, 2019 at the Lower Providence Presbyterian Church in Eagleville Pa, The family will receive guests beginning at 10am, a service will follow at 11am.
